It's good to know that some advertisers have a sense of humor. Hair removal products company Veet placed this ad in Australian newspaper The Sydney Daily Telegraph this past Tuesday.
Now that's what I call a smooth ad!

Countdown to 44
Just another 35 hours until Prez 44 takes over the burden from Prez 43. But who's counting?
Sunday there was the mammoth concert on the mall, with hundreds of thousands in attendance, including both the Prez & Veep and their families. Temps were in the low-30s with a wind-chill in the mid-20s.
And with weather like that, I was glad to watch at home on HBO. What bothered me was that none of the Baltimore-Washington area public TV stations carried the concert. WETA and WMPT not carrying it was bad enough; but I really couldn't understand WHUT (Howard University TV) not carrying it.
[Update: "Schuess," in a comment, informs me that HBO had exclusive rights. Thanks, Schuess! I've also found out that the HBO coverage was made available to non-HBO subscribers. But even then it was available only for those with cable or other paid service and the HBO frequencies available; so Comcast customers, for example, without higher service tiers requiring digital or HD cable boxes were unable to view it.]

Tuesday's inauguration should be a good one, with possibly millions of spectators on the national mall in frigid weather. Again, I'll be watching from the comfort of home.

Top of the Year
Yeah, it's another year. Let's see if this one's any better than the one that's just ended.
I recently thought I smelled the slightest hint of natural gas, so I asked to have my stove checked for a leak. I was reassured that there's no leak, but I'm not convinced.
If my place blows up or I die of asphyxiation, will someone please sue the pants off of them for me? Thank you!
I spotted this personalized plate recently.
The owner may identify him/herself as a Luddite, but obviously not enough of one to eschew the use of the SUV this plate was on.
The high winds yesterday were gusting to over 50 mph, and knocked over this row of newspaper boxes.
Of course, that's nothing compared to the real damage that was done to trees, homes, and power lines in the area.
The price of gas last week.
The price at that station has already come down another 4 cents. I'm not saying those prices are either relatively high or low; they just are what they are.
